Australian captain Pat Cummins has praised Virat Kohli after his team won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, calling him a fantastic competitor who brings a certain spirit to cricket.
Speaking to the media after Australia defeated India 3-1 in the Test series, Cummins acknowledged the impact of Kohli, saying that he gives cricket “theatre.”
Always a great contest, the absolute fantastic stuff. He does much more for the game with the runs, added a theatre to the show here again, sometimes for good, it sometimes gets people on their goads and upset.
I would not be one bit surprised by that, too, part of his plan I hope, Cummins said to media
Cummins gave Kohli lavish praise even though the Indian batter had a decidedly subpar series to his account, garnering only 190 runs in nine innings.
If that is it for his series in Australia with the Test form, it’ll be a waste, said Cummins, who insisted that Kohli has been, over the course of the past ten years, one of the real “star” batters.
“He has been one of the star batsmen for close to a decade and more. Would be sad if this was his last series. He is always exciting to play against,” he added.
AB de Villiers on Kohli’s form
AB de Villiers, an ex-teammate of Kohli at RCB also comments on Kohli’s current performances. According to De Villiers, Kohli was someone who “reset” in his thoughts and never really got into uncalled arguments on the field. According to him, the very same fact that is applaudable for him often lets his focus slip by.
“I think the thing is to reset your mind every time. Virat loves the fight, but when you are not in the form of your life, it is to get rid of those things. For a batter, it is resetting every single and understanding every ball is an event and just forget about the bowler,” de Villiers said in a video that he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
It threw India out of the World Test Championship final too, in which Australia will face South Africa at Lord’s in June.
