New Delhi (Nilesh Tiwari): India’s star pace-bowling all-rounder, Nitish Kumar Reddy, received a cash reward of ₹25 lakh from the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) after he scored his first century against Australia at the (MCG) on Saturday.
The young batsman fought his way to a determined 105 not out and India reached 358 for nine by the third day at MCG.
What it also made him is the third youngest Indian to score a hundred or more on Australian soil, scoring more than Rishabh Pant, and getting to the third highest total.
Defending a Test debut with a century on Australian soil, the all-rounder from Andhra Pradesh at 21 years and 216 days became the third youngest Indian to score a first Test century in the country. Sachin Tendulkar who was 18 years and 256 days in 1992 followed by Pant at 21 years and 92 days in 2019 are the other two Indian players who scored their maiden hundreds in Australia.
This turned out to be a crucial stand of eighth wickets as Nitish Reddy to bat with Washington Sundar who scored 50 runs; 162 balls faced.
