New Delhi: Indian automakers Tata Motors and Mahindra have emerged as global leaders in electric vehicle (EV) efficiency, outperforming international giants Tesla and BYD in terms of energy consumption per kilometre.
According to the latest 2025 comparison of the world’s 22 largest automakers, Tata Motors and Mahindra recorded the lowest energy consumption per kilometre among all companies assessed, making them the most energy-efficient EV manufacturers globally.
The achievement highlights the growing strength of India’s electric mobility sector and reflects the engineering capabilities of domestic manufacturers. Designed primarily for Indian road and driving conditions, the EV technologies developed by Tata Motors and Mahindra are now setting a global benchmark for energy efficiency.
The rankings indicate that Indian automakers have surpassed several established global EV manufacturers in delivering vehicles that consume less energy per kilometre, reinforcing India’s rising position in the global electric vehicle industry.
