New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Italy on Wednesday.

Addressing a joint press meet in Italy, PM Modi said, “Rome is known in the world as the ‘Eternal City’. In India, my Lok Sabha constituency, Kashi, is also considered an ancient and eternal city. When two civilisations come together, the discussion is not limited only to an agenda. It reflects the depth of history, the vision of the future, and the ease of friendship all together. In the last about three and a half years, I have had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni several times. This reflects the close cooperation and coordination between India and Italy. Under her leadership, our relations have gained new momentum, new direction, and new confidence.”

“Our Defence Industrial Roadmap has opened path for co-development/co-production. As maritime powers close cooperation between India-Italy connectivity is natural. We will work together on shipping, ports modernization, logistics, blue economy,” PM Modi added.

Narendra Modi also highlighted India–Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029 and said, “In today’s meeting we discussed in detail how to strengthen our future partnership. The India–Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029 provides a practical and futuristic framework to our partnership. We are moving forward on this in a time-bound manner. Our joint efforts in bilateral trade are rapidly moving towards the target of 20 billion euros. More than 800 Italian companies present in India are actively participating in India’s growth story. The business forum held today clearly shows that business leaders of both countries have a new enthusiasm, new confidence, and new ambition.”

Earlier, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote on X, “The relationship between India and Italy has now reached a decisive phase. In recent years, our ties have expanded with unprecedented momentum, evolving from a cordial friendship to a special strategic partnership founded on the values of freedom and democracy, as well as a shared vision of the future.”
