New Delhi: India has achieved a big success in the defence sector. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Thursday tested a glide weapon in Odisha.
DRDO informed on social media platform X, “Maiden flight-trial of Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) weapon was successfully conducted off the coast of Odisha on May 07, 2026.”
“TARA, the modular range extension kit, is India’s first indigenous glide weapon system to convert unguided warheads into precision guided weapons,” DRDO added.
A glide weapon can travel long distances in the air after being released from an aircraft. It uses wings or control systems to glide smoothly toward its target instead of simply falling straight down. These weapons can be launched from far away, helping aircraft stay safer from enemy air defenses.
