The official sources confirmed to BNN that Prakash will be relieved after March this year.
There has been no official word on the reasons behind the decision.
Prakash assumed the role of SAIL Chairman on May 31, 2023, with a five-year tenure. His departure comes while the public sector steel major is pursuing a 35-million-tonne expansion programme aligned with the objectives of the National Steel Policy 2017, which targets a national steel capacity of 300 million tonnes by 2030.
As Chairman and Managing Director, Prakash held the company’s highest executive position, responsible for aligning operational decisions with government policy.
SAIL currently operates five integrated steel plants located in West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, together accounting for a production capacity of approximately 21 million tonnes.
A metallurgical engineer from BIT Sindhri, Prakash joined SAIL in 1991 as a Management Trainee (Technical). Over the years, he served in multiple leadership roles across the organisation and was appointed Director in charge of the Bokaro Steel Plant in 2020.
