Kerala: Kings Infra Ventures Ltd., a pioneer in sustainable fisheries and seafood exports, has welcomed the launch of the 5th Marine Fisheries Census 2025 — a landmark national initiative jointly led by ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Fisheries Survey of India (FSI), and the Department of Fisheries (DoF) under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, with support from the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

Scheduled to take place across November and December 2025, the census will digitally map over 1.2 million fisher households in more than 3,500 coastal villages across India. Using geo-tagged mobile applications, AI-enabled analytics, and satellite data integration, the initiative aims to empower fishing communities, improve coastal livelihoods, and reinforce environmental sustainability. It aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of the Blue Economy as a foundational pillar of Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat.

Mr. Shaji Baby John, Chairman and Managing Director of Kings Infra Ventures Ltd., stated, “The Marine Fisheries Census marks a transformative moment for Indian seafood. Accurate, data-driven insights will enhance traceability, quality assurance, and global credibility, reinforcing India’s position in international markets.”

He further added, “It is significant to note that MFC 2025 is the very first time that a digital and geo-referenced marine fisheries census is being created in the country. Kings Infra is committed to leveraging this national initiative to strengthen international market access and deliver high-quality, sustainable Indian seafood to buyers worldwide.”

The findings from MFC 2025 are expected to shape national strategies for marine resource management and livelihood enhancement. By integrating scientific data with local insights, the census will support sustainable fishing practices, infrastructure development, market forecasting, disease prevention, and welfare schemes for coastal communities. This comprehensive approach is set to strengthen India’s blue economy framework and elevate its global seafood leadership.

The 5th Marine Fisheries Census 2025 represents a major step forward in modernising India’s marine sector, ensuring that data-driven governance and community empowerment go hand in hand to build a resilient and globally competitive seafood ecosystem.
