Hyderabad: Power Mech Projects Limited (PMPL), a leading industrial engineering and infrastructure services company, announced that it had secured a major contract from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for the execution of the Balance of Plant (BoP) package on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis for the upcoming 1 x 800 MW Singareni Thermal Power Station (TPS), Stage-II. The contract, valued at over ₹2500 crores excluding GST, marked a significant addition to PMPL’s robust EPC portfolio.
The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is currently expanding its thermal power generation capacity at Pegadapalli, Jaipur Mandal, Mancherial District, Telangana. The new 800 MW unit will be added to the existing 2 x 600 MW configuration, reinforcing SCCL’s commitment to reliable base-load power generation. BHEL had been awarded the complete EPC scope for the project, encompassing both Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) and Balance of Plant (BoP) packages. PMPL had been entrusted with the BoP execution, with a contract duration of 38 months.
The scope of work under PMPL’s BoP package includes comprehensive engineering, procurement and construction of critical systems such as coal and biomass handling, ash handling, utilities, induced draft cooling tower (IDCT), water and wastewater treatment facilities, fire protection systems, associated civil and structural works, and electrical and control & instrumentation (C&I) components.
Commenting on the award, Mr. Sajja Kishore Babu, Chairman and Managing Director of PMPL, stated, “This project will further strengthen our robust order book and reinforce the Company’s core capabilities in Engineering, Procurement and Construction, in line with our strategic growth vision. It also aligns with India’s broader mission to enhance power generation capacity and ensure long-term energy security through reliable base-load thermal power.”
He emphasized that while India continues to accelerate its renewable energy transition, thermal power remains indispensable for maintaining round-the-clock electricity supply and grid stability. “The Government of India’s roadmap includes the addition of high-efficiency supercritical and ultra-supercritical thermal units, incorporating cleaner combustion technologies and renewable co-firing options such as biomass, to balance performance efficiency with environmental sustainability,” he added.
PMPL’s proven track record in executing complex infrastructure projects across the globe, combined with its in-house team of professionals and strong project management capabilities, positions the company as a key player in India’s evolving power landscape. The company reiterated its commitment to quality, safety and customer satisfaction, and expressed confidence in delivering the Singareni TPS Stage-II BoP package within the stipulated timeline.
This strategic win not only reinforces PMPL’s leadership in the EPC domain but also contributes to India’s energy infrastructure goals, especially in regions like Telangana where industrial growth and energy demand are on the rise. The integration of biomass handling systems within the BoP scope reflects a forward-looking approach to sustainability, aligning with national efforts to decarbonize thermal operations without compromising reliability.
As the project moves into execution, PMPL is expected to mobilize its engineering and construction teams, initiate procurement processes, and begin groundwork at the Pegadapalli site. The successful completion of this project will further elevate PMPL’s standing in the power and infrastructure sectors, paving the way for future collaborations with BHEL and other public sector enterprises.
