North Goa: Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, inaugurated a 45 kW On-Grid Solar Power System at a water pumping station in North Goa district today. The installation, carried out under the CSR initiative of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), marks a significant step toward sustainable public infrastructure.
Designed to generate approximately 60,000 units of electricity annually, the solar system will fully solarize the pumping load at the facility. This milestone aims to demonstrate how renewable energy can reliably and sustainably power essential public services like water distribution.
In a statement, Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman and Managing Director of IREDA, emphasized the broader vision behind the initiative: “This initiative underlines IREDA’s commitment to extend clean energy beyond financing and into community development. Solarization of public services such as water pumping stations can become a replicable model for sustainable energy transition nationwide.”
The event witnessed participation from officials of IREDA’s CSR team, representatives of the Goa Drinking Water Department, and local authorities, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the project.
