Mumbai: Tilaknagar Industries Ltd. (TI), India’s largest brandy producer and one of the country’s fastest-growing spirits companies, has made a decisive entry into the premium whisky category with the launch of Seven Islands Pure Malt Whisky. This marks a strategic expansion for the 90-year-old company, following its recent announcement of acquiring Imperial Blue, the world’s third-largest selling whisky brand.
Seven Islands is a 100% pure malt whisky crafted from four distinct single malts—two sourced from India and two from Scotland. The Indian malts hail from the Himalayan foothills and the Vindhyan ranges, offering high-altitude and tropical ageing characteristics. These are blended with malts from Speyside and the Lowlands, two of Scotland’s most iconic whisky regions. The result is a complex, full-bodied spirit that reflects both Indian craftsmanship and global blending traditions.
The launch of Seven Islands signals TI’s intent to establish whisky as its second major growth pillar, alongside its long-standing dominance in brandy with flagship labels like Mansion House and Monarch Legacy Edition. It also aligns with the company’s premium vertical, House of TI, which focuses on craft-led innovation and upscale offerings.
India’s Whisky Opportunity
Whisky remains the most aspirational and consumed spirit in India, accounting for approximately 66% of total consumption in 2024, according to IWSR. In H1 2025 alone, Indian whisky grew 7% year-on-year, crossing 130 million cases. The segment is witnessing strong premiumisation and rising global interest, making it a timely growth avenue for TI.
Amit Dahanukar, Chairman and Managing Director, Tilaknagar Industries Ltd., said: “India’s whisky story is evolving faster than ever, with growing consumer demand for premium and luxury expressions. Seven Islands marks TI’s entry into this dynamic category, bringing together Indian craftsmanship and global expertise to create a whisky that is both distinctly Indian and globally competitive.”
A New Style of Whisky
Seven Islands moves beyond the single-malt narrative that has dominated recent Indian whisky launches. As a pure malt, it blends multiple single malts to create a richer, more layered profile. This Indo-Scottish duality introduces a new style—one shaped by two climates, two traditions, and a more nuanced blending philosophy.
A Tribute to Mumbai’s Maritime Heritage
The brand name pays homage to the original seven islands that formed Mumbai, TI’s home city. The bottle design features a V-cut neck symbolizing the convergence of Indian and Scottish malts, cartographic lines referencing the island contours, and an anchor motif celebrating Mumbai’s maritime legacy. The sage, cream, and gold palette reinforces its premium positioning.
Sanaya Dahanukar, Marketing Manager, Tilaknagar Industries Ltd., added: “Seven Islands reflects our vision for House of TI, our new vertical which includes our premium portfolio and investments arm. With Seven Islands, we wanted to bring a new perspective and style to Indian whisky—a meaningful step forward as we expand into this category.”
