New Delhi: Tejas Networks has announced its selection by PowerGrid Teleservices (PowerTel), a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), for a major Telecom Capacity Augmentation Project. The initiative will implement a next-generation SDN-based Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network across India, enhancing backbone connectivity for data centers, telecom operators, government agencies, and large enterprises.

The comprehensive project includes network design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and integration of a 400Gbps DWDM system at new greenfield sites, along with upgrades to existing links. Tejas Networks will deploy its flagship multi-terabit TJ1600 DWDM/OTN platform, which supports up to 1.2Tbps over a single wavelength and features advanced alien wavelength technology.

Arnob Roy, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Tejas Networks, stated, “We are delighted to extend our long-standing partnership with PowerTel to augment the backbone capacity of their pan-India DWDM network. This upgrade addresses the exploding demand for high-bandwidth connectivity from data center providers, telcos, government, and large enterprises. Our pioneering alien wavelength solution offers a cost-effective transition path for global telecom operators to significantly boost capacities on their brownfield networks while enhancing supply chain diversity and accelerating time-to-market for new services.”

Tejas Networks is among the few global optical networking providers to have commercially deployed alien wavelength technology at scale across diverse and complex third-party optical line systems. With over a decade of research and deployment experience, the company continues to lead innovation in high-capacity, scalable telecom infrastructure.

This strategic deployment reinforces Tejas Networks’ position as a key enabler of India’s digital backbone, supporting the country’s growing demand for robust, future-ready telecom infrastructure.
