Gurugram: SpiceJet has officially inducted three new aircraft into its operational fleet, marking the launch of its ambitious winter expansion plan. The additions include one Airbus A340 wide-body and two Boeing 737 narrow-body aircraft, which will begin operations between October 10 and 11. This move is part of a larger strategy to meet the rising demand for air travel during the holiday season.

The airline plans to induct a total of 20 aircraft between October and November under a damp lease model. In addition, four previously grounded aircraft will be reactivated by mid-December, significantly boosting overall capacity.

Expansion impact and operational goals
SpiceJet’s winter expansion is expected to more than double its operational fleet and triple its Available Seat Kilometers (ASKM) by December 2025. The airline aims to introduce new routes, increase flight frequencies, and add fresh destinations across its domestic and international network. Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, stated, “This is just the beginning of a large-scale expansion that will redefine SpiceJet’s operations this winter. With every new induction, we are strengthening our operational capabilities, opening new routes, and ensuring greater convenience and connectivity for our passengers across India and beyond.”

Strategic context and market outlook
The expansion reflects SpiceJet’s response to robust travel demand and its readiness to scale operations with confidence. The airline’s focus on fleet augmentation, route diversification, and passenger convenience positions it to capture a larger share of the winter travel market. Industry analysts view this move as a strong signal of recovery and growth in India’s aviation sector, with SpiceJet leveraging both leased and reactivated aircraft to optimize capacity and service delivery.
