Thiru K. Kamaraj, often referred to as the “Kingmaker” in Indian politics, was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress and served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1954 to 1963. His tenure is especially remembered for revolutionary reforms in the education sector, including the introduction of free and compulsory education and the mid-day meal scheme, which significantly increased school enrollment in the state.
He also played a key role in national politics during the 1960s, influencing major decisions in the Indian National Congress, and was instrumental in the appointment of two Prime Ministers — Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi.
