Mohali: The Directors of Jonjua Overseas Limited – Major Harjinder Singh Jonjua, Retd. and Harmanpreet Singh Jonjua have filed a patent application titled ‘Technology and Process using Spent Coffee Grounds as Organic Fertiliser for Agriculture, Horticultural and Botanical Gardens to Improve Soil and Plant Quality, Increase Productivity, and to Reduce Carbon Footprint’ vide Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks C.B.R. No. 68 dated January 2, 2026 reproduced below.

If not utilized properly, it can cause environmental pollution both as piles of organic waste and greenhouse gas emissions due to anaerobic decomposition. The present invention deals with the process for use of Spent Coffee Grounds as organic fertilizer for agriculture, horticultural and botanical gardens to improve soil and plant quality, increase productivity, and to reduce Carbon Footprint. It also deals with the use of Compost, Cat Litter Compost and Horse Litter Compost along with Spent Coffee Grounds as Organic Fertilizer. Acid-loving plants like azaleas, blueberries, and tomatoes; acidophilic plants including rhododendrons, roses, and carrots; and lettuce and cabbage production will benefit from this invention.
