The Indian Army has launched Operation SHIVA 2025 in close coordination with the Civil Administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). This annual operation, known for its intensity and scale, has been further strengthened this year in response to increased security concerns following Operation Sindoor, and heightened threats from Pakistan-backed proxies.
Over 8,500 troops have been strategically deployed to safeguard both the Northern and Southern routes of the Yatra. The Army’s plan includes a strong mix of manpower, technology, and rapid response mechanisms aimed at creating a robust security framework along the pilgrimage path. The operation focuses on proactive counter-terrorism efforts, route protection, and timely assistance to civil authorities for any emergency or disaster management requirements.

A comprehensive network has been put in place, which includes an advanced counter-drone and electronic warfare system, regular drone surveillance of the Yatra route and the sacred Holy Cave, and live monitoring through high-resolution PTZ cameras. Engineer task forces have been mobilized to improve tracks, build bridges, and provide quick disaster relief. The medical preparedness is equally extensive with over 150 doctors and health workers deployed, supported by a 100-bed hospital, multiple dressing stations, medical aid posts, oxygen booths, and two lakh litres of oxygen stocked for emergency use.
Supporting units like signal companies, technical detachments, and bomb detection and disposal squads are also working round the clock to ensure seamless communication and safety. Emergency provisions, including food rations for 25,000 people, temporary shelters, clean water supply points, bulldozers, and excavators, are readily available. Additionally, Indian Army helicopters remain on standby for any immediate evacuation or critical response requirements.
