New Delhi (Nilesh Tiwari): Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s last test will be the fifth in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, feels cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. The 37-year-old hitter is in a downfall in his Test career currently. He scored only 619 runs at an average of 24.76 in his last 26 Test innings.
Gavaskar said, Rohit might declare his retirement if he fails to score in the upcoming Test match in Sydney. The legendary batsman went on to say that India would not qualify to the World Test Championship (WTC) final if they lost the fifth Test. The next WTC cycle will begin on June 20 of the following year with the Test series against England.
He suggested that board members pick blood for the upcoming five-test series against England-a series that starts the WTC 2027 cycle.
“If he does not get runs, then it can come true. Absolutely, that is possible. There will be less chances to get into the final of the World Test Championship due to this defeat today. 2027 is going to be the next cycle for the World Test Championship, and the series taking place in England, and so the next cycle too. You should meet fresh faces for that.” said Gavaskar in an exclusive conversation with Aaj tak
Taking Australia one step further toward the highly World Test Championship final that awaits them next year in England, Pat Cummins and the rest of the Australian team finally victorious 2-1 against India from a five-test series with their victory over India, where they won the test by 184 runs.
However, in order to remain in the race for the WTC Final to be played at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium, Rohit Sharma’s India needs to win the test match.
